Have we all given up?
Have we all decided to stop blogging? It seems I am the only one among our little community who has posted since October of last year (or in DOT's case, since November 2006!). I have four posts to Clair's and SFL's zero.
Come on, peeps! Write something! My life has been officially stinky over this past Christmas holiday, but I still managed to crank out a few posts. I know, Clair's busy with work and SFL's busy with...something, probably rock digging or perhaps spending quality time with WOT (though strangely enough, usually these two things end up being one and the same).
But still! Blogs are like sharks...if they don't stay active, they die. Seriously, did you know a shark can die if it gets caught somewhere (say, in between rocks or something) and can't move? Well, I mean, duh, after a long enough time anything would die if it couldn't move. But I think I read once that a shark can't breathe if it doesn't keep moving.
Moving on from that cheery thought. I am attempting to make this blog as random as possible because SFL likes to read random blog posts; perhaps this will persuade him to come back to the blogging world, if not as a poster, then at least as a commenter.
So did you know that our library now has, get this, PINK twelve-pointed star bookmarks encased in plastic to designate new quick-read books, instead of the usual yellow five-pointed stars? Wow, amazing. The yellow stars kind of remind me of the stars the Jews had to wear during the Hitler era (yes, I know those were six-pointed) -- which brings me to a graphic novel I saw the other day.
Maus. Have you heard of it? I only read a few bits and pieces because it was on hold for someone else, but the bits I saw were horrifying and amazing all at once. It's about a writer who's telling the story of his family's capture and imprisonment in some of the Nazi camps. He can't bear to tell the story as himself because it's too painful, so he takes on the persona of a mouse. All the Jews in the story are mice, and the Nazis are cats.
Now I have a bit of a problem with the casting of cats as Nazis, lol, but the novel is really gripping. It's not for younger people (I'd say 15 or 16 and up), but it's great for those who can handle it. Stories like that need to be told.
Another thing that people really should take in is the TNT miniseries Into the West. I know I've mentioned it before on the blog, but it is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. It tells a story of which everyone needs to be aware. As I used to end many of my college essays, it tells us where we have been so that we may never again end up there. Now I love history, but there are some parts that we should never repeat.
That's one of the reasons I help re-enact the American Civil War. Yes, I positively adore re-enacting, but one of the (many) reasons I do re-enacting is so that people can learn about what happened so that we won't ever go back to some of the prejudices and erroneous ideas we had before. There is much to love about the time period (cooking over the fire, lovely clothes and hair, manners, gentility, gallantry, doing things for oneself instead of relying on machines, etc.), but there is also much that needs to stay in the nineteenth century and not follow us into the twenty-first century.
Why did I just spell out "19th" and "21st"? I have no idea. Hey, know what? I'm wearing a shirt by a company called Ruff Hewn. I LOVE their clothes. They remind me of Tractor Supply clothes. Tractor Supply is my favourite place to shop for clothes. I hate going to the mall. Absolutely hate it. Tractor Supply is much preferable. The smell of grain and sawdust and machinery permeates everything; love it!
La la la la la....randomness....well, can't think of anything more right now. Oh, yes, one other thing. I've discovered what I'm going to get my mom and dad for Mother's Day and Father's Day. Hmm. Should it be Mothers' or Mother's? There are multiple mothers involved, after all. No wonder people give up and just say Mothers Day and Fathers Day. LOL!
Anyway! I found a site, http://www.cookingpost.com/, that has unique Native-grown blue corn items, like parched corn and pancake mix. I think I'll get my dad the pancake mix, since he is so (over)fond of pancakes for a reason I have not yet figured out.
And for my mom! At http://www.cafepress.com/, I found a mug with a picture of a Maine Coon cat on it (like our darling boy Outlaw). It says "OBEY THE MAINE COON CAT"! Type in "Maine Coon" in the cafepress search bar and see what you get. It's so cool.
My parents will love their presents. I can't wait to order them! Too bad I have to wait a couple of months. Grrr!
Oh well, that's all for now! Love to all my readers, if I have any left!
